Folders
Learn all about the Folders screen
The button for the Folders area can be found in the main navigation menu, at the bottom of the screen, on the left. You can use the buttons in the main navigation menu to switch between the Folders area, the Scan screen, and the Notifications area.
Folders is where you can organize the Outlinx pages you either create or save. When you create an Outlinx page it automatically gets added to your Folders list. Also, when you save another user's page it gets added to your Folders list. To help keep your Outlinx pages organized you can create folders for them. You can also search for your Outlinx pages on the Folders screen.
On the Folders screen you'll see a list of Outlinx pages and folders. Pages have a white background and display the title and first couple lines of text on the page. Folders have a colored background and display the title and number of Outlinx pages the folder contains.
Creating & Editing Folders
To create a folder for your Outlinx pages, just go to the Folders screen and tap the "+" button in the upper right of the screen. This will present a menu where you can choose to create a new note page, or create a new folder. Tap "New Folder", then give your folder a name, and choose a background color. Then hit the "SAVE" button in the upper right of the screen to finish setting up the folder. The folder is now created, and you should see it in your Folders list.
Adding Outlinx pages to a folder is simple. On the Folders screen find the page in your list, swipe left on it, and tap the green "move to folder" button. In the select folder menu, just pick the folder you'd like to move the page to.
We also support nested folders. So you can put folders inside of folders. The process is the same as adding a page to a folder. On the Folders screen find the folder in your list, swipe left on it, and tap the green "move to folder" button. In the select folder menu, just pick the folder you'd like to move the folder to.
If you open a folder you'll also see a "+" button in the upper right of the screen. You can use this "+" button to create a new item (note page or folder) that will automatically get added to the open folder.
The Search Function
The search bar lives at the top of the Folders list. If you don't see it simply scroll to the top of the Folders screen. You can enter any text into the search bar and it will search all of the Outlinx pages inside that folder, and inside subfolders within that folder. If you do a search from the root Folder screen it will search all of the Outlinx pages in your account.
The search results will list all of the Outlinx pages and folders that contain the text entered into the search bar. If an item exists inside of a folder there are some breadcrumbs at the bottom of the item tile to help indicate where in the hierarchy of folders that particular item lives.
Link Folder to Outlinx QR Code
You can link a folder to an Outlinx QR code. Linking a folder works the same as linking a page.
To link a folder to an Outinx code, simply open the folder, open the ellipses menu (3 dots in upper right of screen), then tap the option "Link to Outlinx QR Code". When the Scan screen opens just scan the Outlinx code you want to link the folder to. The scan preview will pop up with a message that says "Tap to Link". Just tap that preview message and the folder is now linked to the code. You'll receive an on-screen notification that says "Linked" if done successfully.
Sorting the Folders List
There are a couple ways to sort your list on the Folders screen. The sorting buttons live at the top of the Folders screen.
Custom Sort: By default new pages and folders get added to the top of the Folders list. You can also drag and drop items to reorder them. Tap and hold on an item then drag it to a new spot in the list. The "Custom" sort view will display your list however you've ordered it.
Alphabetical Sort: View "Alphabetical" sort if you'd like to see your Folders list in alphabetical order. From top to bottom the list will be organized from A to Z.
These sorting views are also available for nested folders.
Options for Items in the Folders List
Swipe left on an item in the Folders list to access the menu buttons.
Move To Folder (Green): Tap this button to move the item to a folder. This button is available when you swipe left on both pages and folders.
Delete (Red): Tap this button to delete the item. If you delete an Outlinx page the text and media will be deleted. If you delete a folder, you can choose to either keep all the pages & folders within it, or delete all of the pages & folders within it. This button is available when you swipe left on both pages and folders.
Rename Folder (Blue): Tap this button to edit the name or color of a folder. This button is only available when you swipe left on a folder.
Folder Settings
Open a folder and tap the ellipses button (3 dots) in the upper right of the screen to view the folder settings menu. See the section "Folder Settings" in this guide for more details.
Scanning an Outlinx Code That is Linked to a Folder
When you scan an Outlinx QR code that is linked to a folder you will see the contents of the folder (ie all of the pages and subfolders within it).
If you're the owner of the folder and you swipe left on an item in the list you'll see the three options described in "Options for the Items in the Folders list".
If you're not the owner of the folder and you swipe left on a page in the list, you'll see a button that allows you to either save the page or request to save the page to your Folders. The button you see depends on the state of the option "Users must request to save" for the page which is set by the owner of the page.
Currently i you scan an Outlinx code that's linked to a folder there is currently no way to save the entire folder. If you scan an Outlinx code that's linked to a folder, and you want to copy the entire folder, you have to save each page one by one, create a folder, and add the pages to the folder.
User Settings
The user settings menu lives in the upper left of the Folders screen. Tap it to access your account-level settings. See the User Settings section for more details.
